Taiwan's Ministry of Environment recently explained the direction of the latest revisions to the regulations governing chemical substances. Among these revisions, the management system for PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances), which has attracted significant domestic and international attention, will be implemented gradually in accordance with the Toxic and Concerned Chemical Substances Management Act. The Ministry of Environment stated that since announcing the draft of the "Regulations on the Control of Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances and Their Operation" on August 5, 2025, it has continuously collected opinions from industry and various sectors and made adjustments based on international management trends. The latest public statement from the Chemical Industry Administration indicates that the 269 PFAS substances previously announced will not be all included in the regulations at once, but rather will be managed in stages and at different levels, with adjustments made in accordance with the rolling addition of new substances to the list in accordance with international conventions. However, the competent authority also emphasized that the content of the draft has not yet been finalized, and communication with industry and relevant stakeholders will continue.International Chemicals Policy Advocacy Network. Proactive Compliance Strategy for Sustainable Chemical Management: GoChem 1000

Aiming to achieve the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM) 2020 goals, SAHTECH has been actively devoting to promote the initiative of proactive chemical management.  Developed by SAHTECH, GoChem 1000 is a useful resource to identify potential chemicals of concerns.  GoChem 1000 collects high hazard chemical substances, widely used in high tonnage in Taiwan, and projects chemicals that are likely to be further regulated in Taiwan and elsewhere, based on the risk-based approach. By comparing company’s chemical inventory with GoChem 1000, companies can easily screen out chemicals in their products or workplace deserving advanced attention for regulatory compliance and product stewardship purposes.  Companies can therefore understand the footprint of these prioritized harmful targets, and proactively take actions to reduce the use of high concern chemicals. Gochem1000 is currently comprising about 1,030 chemical substances, including substance like 1,3-dichloropropan-2-ol, and 4-tert-butylbenzoic acid and further more.  GoChem 1000 will be updated regularly and continuously. For more details, GoChem1000 is now available on www.gochemgo.com.tw.
